Dale Satake

President

Retired Entrepreneur and Marketing Executive

Dale Satake has been a member of the Side by Side Board since 2017. As a former business owner and entrepreneur, Dale brings experience in operations, marketing, project management, customer relations and finance. She currently serves on the national board of directors and as the national advancement committee chair for AAUW, the oldest women’s advocacy organization. Past volunteer positions include United Way Community Services of Central Maryland Board president, AAUW Marin Board president, Kappa Alpha Theta Marin board president, and Columbia Foundation Board Trustee. As a third generation Japanese American whose parents were sent to internment camps during WWII, Dale has experienced firsthand the power of a helping hand and is devoting her retirement time to “paying it forward” so others can navigate the challenges of life.

Ricki Syufy

Vice President

Psychotherapist

Ricki joined Side by Side’s board in 2019 after generously supporting the agency for many years. She is a trained psychotherapist and also has an MBA with years of accounting experience with small businesses and nonprofits. Her previous volunteer experience includes accounting work at Innovative Housing and the Marin Continuum of Housing and Services, as well as providing therapy services for the boys at Timothy Murphy School. Ricki also co-founded the nonprofit, Home Sweet Home which helped formerly homeless families with furnishings. She splits her time between Palm Desert and San Rafael and is an avid golfer.

Tim Myers

President and CEO, Bank of Marin

Tim joined the Side by Side Board of Directors in 2021 because he wanted to help address the mental health needs of vulnerable youth and their families. He brings professional experience working in finance, management, nonprofit administration, and education, as well as previously serving as the Chairman of the Board for Edgewood Center for Children and Families. President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Marin and Bank of Marin Bancorp, Tim resides in San Rafael.

Wendy Buscaglia

Former Marketing Executive

As a mother of two, Wendy first became interested in Side by Side because of the wide variety of programs dedicated to serving the mental health needs of underserved youth who are fighting to succeed in spite of their personal challenges. With expertise in leadership, negotiation, fundraising, and project implementation, Wendy has served on multiple boards including the Marin School of the Arts. She also serves as an advisor to the Sparkle Foundation for their SparkleBIZ program. Professionally, Wendy has worked as a producer/editor in social media, advertising, and filmmaking at Foote, Cone & Belding Advertising Agency. and Meyenberg Goat Milk Products. She lives in Novato and is passionate about art, music, sports, and cooking, as well as being a competitive horseback rider for 20 years.

Deanna Brock

Senior Corporate Counsel, Autodesk

Parent of a former student at Side by Side’s Irene M. Hunt School, Deanna joined the Side by Side board to support the agency that provided her son with the resources and tools he needed to succeed in school and life. In addition to co-chairing Side by Side’s Reach for the Stars Gala since 2019 and serving as SBS’s Development & Communication Committee Chair, Deanna has volunteered for the Ross Valley Mothers' Club and 4 schools over the past 16 years.  Deanna serves as Senior Corporate Counsel for Autodesk and is a California-licensed attorney, as well as holding an LL.M. in Tax.  Deanna resides in San Anselmo, CA with her husband and two sons.

Barbara Carbone

Former Audit Partner, KPMG

Barbara has a strong belief that early childhood education and intervention is the most effective approach to the challenges faced by those dealing with mental health issues. In addition to serving on Side by Side’s board for over 12 years, Barbara was a board member of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council for 20 years and is a trustee of the Exploratorium in San Francisco. Now retired, Barbara was an Audit Partner at KPMG and is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Public Accountants. She also currently serves on 3 corporate boards. Barbara resides in Sonoma and her interests include spending time with her family and exploring culinary pursuits.

Juan Gonzalez

Principal/Advisory Services, KPMG

A long-time resident of San Leandro, CA, Juan is passionate about youth-related issues, be it education/childhood development or youth safety. Juan brings deep financial acumen and experience volunteering for nonprofit organizations, including having served as a Board Member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the East Bay and the San Leandro Education Foundation. He brings a wealth of corporate experience from his nearly 30-year tenure with KPMG, where he currently serves as a senior principal in the advisory services division. Juan is multilingual, and commonly uses his foreign language skills to facilitate services for community members.

Jennifer L. Gotti

Human Resources Manager, Ropers Majeski PC

Jennifer first joined Side by Side’s board in 2008 as a result of the agency’s merger with Children’s Garden and continued on the board until terming off in 2018. She has remained very active in SBS’s Gala Committee and rejoined the Board of Directors in 2022. An HR professional, Jennifer is currently the Human Resources Manager at Ropers Majeski PC in Menlo Park and was previously employed at Brayton Purcell LLP. Jennifer has been involved with Marin County Personnel Commission since 2016 and served on Marin Workforce Development Board and Schools of the Sacred Heart Alumni Board. She lives in San Rafael and has a passion for community service, Bay Area sports, hiking, good food, and performing with a Marin dance company.              .

Vamsey Palagummi

Nonprofit Consultant and Managing Director, Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ)

An attorney and nonprofit consultant, Vamsey has a particular passion for working with youth who have personally been impacted by adversity. Through his consulting career, he has worked with numerous high performing nonprofits throughout the Bay Area, providing interim Executive support, Theory of Change articulation and implementation, and evaluation support. He is currently the Managing Director of Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice (CURYJ, pronounced "courage"), an Oakland-based nonprofit focused on uplifting the political consciousness of systems impacted youth of color. He currently resides in Dublin, CA.

Darwin Pangilinan

Audit Partner, WithumSmith & Brown

Darwin is an active foster parent with a passion for helping underprivileged youth find success. He understands the value that inspired mentorship provides to young people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Darwin is an assurance partner serving life sciences companies at WithumSmith & Brown. He currently lives in South San Francisco with his family and two rescue dogs.

Joy Phoenix

Ex-Officio Member and Community Volunteer

Joy, a Glenwood Guild volunteer for over 51 years, joined the agency’s board as an ex-officio member representing SBS’s Guild volunteers and their support of the Hunt School.  She has also been involved with several nonprofits including Youth in Arts, the Marin Cultural Association, and is a founding member of Dominican University’s Women, Leadership & Philanthropy Council. She serves as a Program Officer for the Fenwick Foundation and helps clients with their photo memories at FOREVER. Joy is very involved with her family and is an avid traveler and photographer.

Howard Schomer

Founder/President, HiFidelity Entertainment

Howard is passionate about serving youth in need. His professional experience working in management, marketing, and P&L oversight has contributed to his role as Side by Side Board President from 2020-2022. Howard’s previous volunteer experience includes coaching basketball for the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), volunteering for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and serving on the Board for Wender Weis. CEO/Founder of HiFidelity Entertainment, his professional career included positions in marketing for Unilever, Nestle, and MCA/Universal. Howard lives in Ross and enjoys traveling, music, tennis and studying history and politics.

Ryan Stone

Director & Senior Corporate Counsel, Cadence Design Systems

Ryan has worked with and advised a number of non-profits on legal matters over the past fifteen years, including Mind Matters SF, the Earth Institute and Sanctuary for Families. He has a passion for volunteering with education-related organizations. A United States Marine Corps Veteran, attorney, and pilot, he currently works as a Senior Corporate Counsel for Cadence Design Systems, Inc. Ryan resides in Portola Valley, CA with his wife, son and dog.
