Walk with young people impacted by adversity on their individual journeys to heal from trauma, restore resilience, and embrace their own potential. Founded originally as orphanage in 1895, today Side by Side operates in four Bay Area counties offering a comprehensive array of services that include behavioral and mental health counseling, early intervention in schools, LGBTQIA+ support, special education, and transitional housing for foster youth.
Side by Side employees come from all walks of life, with widely varying backgrounds and experiences, but with the shared goal of honoring each client’s unique needs and strengths in order to prevent the escalation of troubling behavior and help set youth on a positive path towards a future with connection and meaning. United by this objective, our programs celebrate creativity and join together overcoming any challenges along the way. Side by Side’s deep impact is due to our most valuable asset: our compassionate and committed staff.
A significant majority of both our clients and staff are people of color and/or are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. We strive for our workplace to be a safe place where everyone is respected and valued for who they are, and we make conscious efforts to ensure that our culture and norms do not perpetuate oppressive practices. Understanding that many of our young people and their families experience the effects of systemic racism, discrimination and marginalization, Side by Side works to recruit and retain a workforce that reflects the clients and diverse communities we serve.
